Actually, Mangala has its perfect meaning as “Removing all the ill lucks from you and bringing all the good lucks to you”. Therefore, by saying “Mangala” in Pāli, Mingalapar in Myanmar, to someone, “May all the ill lucks be removed from you and all the good lucks be brought to you.” It is just shot to the point.
Of course, there is a very interesting story concerning this word, “Mangalā” in Sutta Pitaka, collection of discourses. There was a very strong argument on the subject of Mangalā even among celestial being taken for 12 years long before the Buddha taught.
When the Buddha gave them a lecture on the subject of Mingalā, there were 38 types of Mangalā very well and skillfully and scholarly classified and sorted out by the Buddha. For example, Bāhu saccañca Sipanñca Vinayoca susikkhito”
“Much learning, skill in science, being well-trained in moral quality and pleasant speech are all Mangalā. Actually, Mangalā is a sort of the subjects to study and put into practice and apply it in everyday life.
