People have very often asked me “What is Buddhism?” “Is it a philosophy or a religion?” I have very often explain what Buddhism is literally. Buddhism can be divided into two words: Budh and Ism. Budh, according to Pali language, means ‘wisdom’. Ism, according to oxford dictionary, ‘System or doctrine’. Therefore, when Budh (wisdom) is combined with Ism (System or doctrine), it becomes Buddhism meaning “System of wisdom or doctrine of wisdom”. we can learn now that Buddhism is really different from sense of religion because actually religion is the system of faith or belief but Buddhism is the system of wisdom. I prefer that Buddhism is a philosophy but it opens to test; it is something scientific, isn’t it? Thank you for reading it.
